First time gone to the Regent theater at Broadway, but not watching an orchestra or ballet, i gone today totally just for Nicole.

She was taking part in a cultural performance show tonight, named 'World on Stage'

The show was mainly dances and songs, never know it until Nicole invited me.

I also had long time dint go for this type of show since the international night in Otago in 2010....really miss that...

Tonight's show were sponsored by local communities, so was sort of a big public show rather than student performances like what I had seen in Uni.

Therefore I am quite interested on the shows....

Nicole's bf picked me up and basically I just watched the show with him and his friend as Nicole was always at backstage preparing for her performance

The show started up with Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Manawatu, I guess is a Manawatu Maori society opening.

IMG_5512

Thought is adult Maori performance, but all of them are kids.. well is kinda 'powerless' haka performance, but perhaps we couldnt expect much with Manawatu.

Then, it followed by the Scottish Pipe, Lion dance, and various dances and songs...

I am not going discuss all the performance here, cz there are like 20 smthing....well most of them are OK performance,

but I guess not many people will want to pay NZD18 for that, is not expensive, but somehow is not cheap either.

Of cz, if get to watch so many performances with the show,NZD18 could be worthy, however, the show itself was poorly organized, even the performers knew that. That was a delay during the second half, and some of the performances on the list were actually missing.

The theater itself is a very good stage, but too bad the organizers didnt use the stage setup wisely...based on what I heard from Nicole, the back stage was a mess, the procedures were not planned accordingly and her dance group nearly missed the show

Luckily Nicole's dance was a good performance, she danced elegantly and beautifully~

 IMG_5544

too bad the moves were very fast, was so hard to capture a good photo....but her movements were in my head now ^^

The most amazing performance was the Korean Arirang, no wonder my parents kept on praising it when they went to North Korea for the show in 2005.

 IMG_5538IMG_5541

For the Japanese performance, they were well prepared and energertic too!

 IMG_5526

But for the remains, hmmmm.,,,well the Bengali dances were good, others were just soso...some were even not well prepared.

Actually the Regent theater is very beautiful, however the show is not well promoted, so actually not many people come for the show. I guess the poor organization should be blamed, hopefully these shows still remain in future.

Is always good to have this type of show for the western..

Yeah, Paya come to Palmy today! Haha, I really happy to see her, long time no see!

There's a mini international festival today at downtown. Yes, it was indeed a mini version, compared to the last International festival I posted in March this year.

IMAG0295IMAG0296

We both had so much fun!! lol, candy pop!

What's inspired me was, the IPC Japanese Taiko club also have a mini performance today! First time I was able to watch this performance so close~Arg, I really want to go to Japan!!

 IMAG0284  IMAG0282

And I also realized, I still like Chinese/Japanese anyways regardless I am at NZ where there are not many Asians here. Lol. U must be wondering why I come out with this conclusion, well, it had been a long thought...

IMAG0280

Anyways, I also found out the cafe at Downtown started selling macaroons!!!! They specially launched them via today's festival, a good start! The macaroons taste good! Finally, macaroons in Palmy!!<3

   IMAG0299

The macaroon not just taste good, it has a big size! The mini macaroon, said the Japanese seller at the Occgi sushi stall at Downtown, is at the right, but it's yuck~ (taste suckss.)

Again, we have lunch at Bean cafe...This is a Malaysian restaurant, which have a very good atmosphere. They also provide manga and comfortable sofa, and they also sell bubble tea.

IMAG0297

Too bad was, their food taste is not stable. Sometimes, I felt satisfied, but sometimes, it's just phew....==

 IMAG0277

This was the soy sauce chicken I tried last time, thumb up! Good taste and good portion size!!

 IMAG0300

later on, Nicole joined us, and 3 of us had gelato~ Nicole was so excited that she found the durian gelato (the yellow one on the left), I ordered a green apple gelato (at the right) while Paya ordered a double scoop contain milo and cransberries gelato.

I also bought this special Japanese carbonated drink, called Ramune~

IMG_4713

What's so special about this is, it contains a marble within the bottle. To consume the soda, u have to use the device provided to push the marble inward to the neck of the bottle so that it will rattle around while drinking...A very creative design!

IMG_4721

see the marble??

That's my lovely fun weekend, how was yours?? =)

well, was not planning to attend this event, i do admit that I am anti-social, and I felt uncomfortable being in these social events

However, i was convinced.....=.=

Anyways, tonight was great, I got to taste different wine, cheese and also learnt a lot about wine.

IMAG0252

Tonight's wine tasting event is basically a wine tasting contest, each team was given 5 questions based on the characteristics of the 5 wine given. So each team was given 5 bottles of wine, and also provided with blocks of cheese (proudly made from our company site), and also some snacks and grapes.

IMAG0254  555890_4164508440378_2115542651_n

I used to drink wine since 2009, and always being a white wine lover, but not addicted. I still prefer dessert wine the best. I know some knowledge about wine, but of cause is not an expert.

IMAG0255

This is a wine "entree", haha, definitely able to warm me up. It was cooked with lemon, yum~ (yes, it is warm! A perfect hot drink for this cold winter)

So, what I learnt today??

Well, the longer the white wine stored, the color will become more golden and yellowish, which mean the pale colored white wine is recently brewed.

Besides, white wine brewed at the most southern part, tastes more sour. Hmmmm, interesting.

473890_4164743166246_820647414_o

Luckily, there are 2 wine experts, who are team managers at my company in my team. So, our team, Red team won!!We scored 3 out of the 5 questions, actually we nearly scored all of them, but we changed the answer in last minute. But, anyways we won! =D

It was a good night, the wine were great, although I dint remember which one really good...=.=

IMAG0270

But I definitely remember the camembert cheese I tasted was so good! OMG, this is the first time I am so addicted with cheese! It is so creamy, so soft, so cheesy!! It defintely high standard product!!

Ping was stil hungry after the wine tasting event, too bad, she cant eat cheese (due to allergy), I really felt bad for her. So we went to Wabisabi after the event, and I ordered this dessert:

IMAG0257

Looking fancy aye?? But I still prefer the green tea ice-cream at Hanamizuki =D

bakesaleAll Sold Out

Last week, one of my colleague’s 3 weeks newly bought car (all the way from Auckland) got stolen and set fire near the airport. He was called by the police that it was his responsibility to clear his car-trash as his car was not covered by insurance.

It was a bad news, but most of our colleagues laughed at it. Most people think is his problem that he did not get insurance. However, not everyone saw his story the same way. My supervisor, Sergey is a good friend of this guy and he felt so sorry for him. He raised a baking sales event to raise money for him, and some people (including me) were requested to bake our hometown delicious cakes.

Initially, I am willing to bake and agree that we should raise some money for him. This guy actually was pretty bad luck lately, he missed part of his PhD data for his project, and also encountered many issues for his PhD. However, sooner I discovered that it was actually not necessary to raise money for him. First, it was his fault that he didn’t cover his car with insurance. Second, if this incident happened to someone else, are we going to have a similar baking sale as well? Or it was just for this particular guy because Sergey is a good friend of him, therefore he is having such good treat? The third is, I didn’t feel that he is appreciating what we had done for him, so what’s the point?

Anyways, the baking sale is hold today at Morning tea time, and the cakes pretty much all gone. Eventually, we raised nearly a thousand for him, and well, he just emailed site-wide a big thank you. He dint even appeared for his baking sale, and he just hidden himself at his desk. I guess he thought is shameful, well, he better do. Then, why are we selling so hard?

Obviously, u can tell that I am not positive with this fund-raising event. Well, I should say this guy is very lucky that he has such a good friend like my supervisor, who has a strong influence over the site, and able to help him without his request. After all, it was a good and helpful action which shouldn’t be judged for the meaning or argued it’s necessarily.

Hopefully our effort was helpful for him and not bringing any troubles to the site. =S

p/s: had celebration dinner for Qing’s successful PhD oral confirmation at De Coree with Qing and Shirley. The dinner was alright, but happy for Qing’s effort got paid =D

Yeah, finally is the cultural festival again, and today was good, as it didn’t rain until I finished browsing and buying stuffs at the festival. =D

And another best for today was because Paya is here!

That’s very good, then I not need figure out what to do. Hehe, as my internet at flat all used up, I have no internet to use until next Tuesday, FxxK!

Actually was very confused how come we could use up all the internet that soon? Someone must have download or streaming movies/videos!

I admitted that I did, but was during off peak period when the internet was free, during 2am to 8pm, I purposely stay late or wake up early for that!

And what the heck with all those Gb all gone one week before the internet expired!?

This is ridiculous!

Anyway, back to the cultural festival. I was intended to try out some breakfast at some fancy cafes, haha. But Paya was suggesting to have some snack food before the breakfast.

And in the end, we just spent the whole day at the festival~

Thank god with the good weather, we have chance to buy so many different and special food from different countries.

Saw the Malaysian stall at first, Paya bought an agar-agar, and I was more interested on the nasi lemak, but would buy it at last. Then we were impressed with the Russian’s stall, and bought a napoleons cake and another rolls.

 IMG_4345IMG_4346IMG_4347

Omg, the napoleons cake was so delicious!

IMG_4348

IMG_4349

The Netherland store....

IMG_4350

Paya was amazed with the Israel Falafel....

IMG_4353

And Germany Danish ice-cream, I was hesistated to buy one when I saw that it come with whipped cream on top, oh my...

Then, we moved on to other stalls around, there were quite many stalls. This is what I love so much with the cultural festival in Palmy, as they were so many varieties, not like Otago international food fest which was more like an Asian cultural festival, ==

And cause is not held by students association only, those local communities also come to participate along, so I could say the food was more ‘well made’. (haha, I picked up on students so much since I have long graduated…=P)

 IMG_4351

Too bad the Taiwanese, Japanese and Korean stalls not selling food this time…..a bit disappointed…TT

Anyways, we still have heaps of food around, and the sun was so energized today, I was getting hot! Paya and I had been hiding ourselves in the lady rest room (not inside! They have something like dining room with comfortable chair outside the rest room, but still indoor) and finished up all the food we bought.

I was so happy with those kebab sticks, and fish ball stick, really likes those food using sticks, made it more delicious~

Many local restaurants also participated in the fest, so a good decision for us to have breakfast + lunch here. Or else, we couldn’t find any restaurants to have lunch as well (cause all staffs were working at the stalls).

IMG_4354IMG_4355

There were 2 kids acted like statue at the fest, which was very funny....XD

Nicole came to join us nearly 2pm, then we changed location to the newly opened Black pearl café at Downtown. Felt sorry for Paya as I have coupon for 2 milk bubble tea, but it was meant to for Nicole….=P

In the end, Paya dint have her bubble tea, Nicole copied me, we both ordered rock melon flavor. Then Jessie suddenly came and bounced into me! OMG, really missed her a lot after I saw her, and Nicole and Paya sneaked away for nasi lemak, left me and Jessie behind.

Thought they would back shortly, but they gone like nearly an hour, for the famous churros….

I really don’t understand, I really dint find it special, so am I special? Hahaha~ XD

And again, Paya headed to Fielding again this time around half passed 3, really funny of her kept on thinking free bus would be provided with the cultural fest to encourage people from Fielding come to Palmy. But love ur optimistic dear~

After fun, is time to make decision now…..=( is so hard!!!

IMG_4357

have a through thought with my nasi lemak, which was not very appetizing, i could make better....

Ok, u might wonder what’s Medieval festival, hmm, actually I am not really a good person to tell

Well, check this out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tewkesbury_Medieval_Festival

You can sort of get an idea, although this one was featured in US

 IMG_4171

Anyway, we saw people walking with costume, and there were many funny activities around~

417761_10150542001063947_676533946_9042308_462138505_n

even those young kids were dressed up so nicely, and they were not performing tho, they just people coming for fun like us, but they indeed had more fun!

The bad thing was the weather was wet and cloudy, dislike!

But in the end, the rain stopped, which was good.

IMG_4127

I love how they used those quilts and random clothing pieces to make up those flags....

Then, the battle field started!

IMG_4126

first, here comes the queen and princess~

IMG_4135

fight~

IMG_4144

wow~

IMG_4138

and kids around were so into the battle~

 IMG_4120

And they even hold a medieval idol stage, kinda mimic American idol aye?

Anyway, we were not interested, but heard a young girl singing Adele <someone like you>, Nicole was like: this was wrong….haha, I agree !

There were many cute stores around~

 IMG_4145

IMG_4147

IMG_4165

IMG_4166

IMG_4167

this is awesome! <3

And we stopped by a candy trek, and I first time tried such a big candy floss!

422300_10150542006793947_676533946_9042340_810430682_n

It melted so quickly, and I was so messy and ate this pink stuff as soon as I could…

We also encountered this beautiful big bubbly scene!

IMG_4149

And we have fun on playing around

 IMG_4157

Good on Nicole, and good on me able to capture this!

But look at me, what is the facial expression?? Failed to take nice photo….TT

 IMG_4159

 IMG_4161

Well, food’s everywhere~

 IMG_4162

IMG_4163

Nicole was hungry, and she decided to buy doughnut!

IMG_4164

Love this doughnut, but too sweet and fatty~

Anyway, we dint spend too much time at the festival, as we are going welly!

Yep, the plan was to get macaroon, and Nicole’s homesickness would like to have some Malaysian meal at little penang~

Food at little penang was not satisfying, well what u expect from someone who just back from the ordinary world??

Anyways, no complaint…..

We hang out around the harbor, sad to find out the wireless in welly was so sucks, I couldn’t connect to wireless with my hTC at all regardless the signal was excellent!

Hmmmm, and we were like: bored….what could we do??

So, Nicole called out her junior, and we walked around lambiton quay to seek for digital camera. Haha, Nicole was impressed with my good zoom of canon, so she would like to get one

But, welly was not a good place for seeking technology, well probably the whole nz was not.

And Nicole’s junior insisted us to try this sushi shop, and rated this sushi was like the heavenly made one, blah blah blah

Hmmm, no comment, I would say: special~ unique~ hehe

But cant deny that’s long queue, and it was cheap and worth after hours.

And in the end, we also made our way to the French lady who made the macaroon in lower hutt.

Before then, we went to the Asian bakery store to buy some Asian bakeries, but seriously, don’t go there, is not worth.

The macaroon was not bad this time in term of taste, but seems a bit dull….the color fade off….anyway, still cant deny it was the best macaroon so far.

Note: we were lost in our way home, spent like an hour to get back to the correct high way, luckily is all okay…..I slept on the way back home again, felt sorry for Nicole, she drove all the way, and I understand how driver need some conversation to be awake…..but u did a good job Nicole, and thanks for the invitation for this good day!
